India’s ITI Limited has partnered with US-based technology company logic to launch an AI and Big Data Analytics-based pilot project aimed at reducing road accidents and enhancing traffic enforcement in Uttar Pradesh. The project will use Complex Event Analytics platform to create a real-time data infrastructure capable of analysing traffic flow, weather conditions, driver behaviour, vehicle performance, accident history, and road infrastructure. The six-week prototype phase will integrate diverse datasets to build AI models that predict accident black spots, identify high-risk patterns, and deliver policy dashboards for real-time decision-making.

The AI platform will be expanded to core transport functions once successful. In a transformative move to enhance road safety and accident prevention, Limited, a public sector undertaking under the Department of Telecommunications, has collaborated with logic, a global technology firm, to launch an AI-powered road safety pilot project in Uttar Pradesh. This pilot aims to integrate artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and real-time monitoring tools to reduce accidents and fatalities across high-risk stretches in the state.

AI-Driven Road Monitoring

At the core of the pilot is a smart surveillance and analytics platform that leverages machine learning algorithms to monitor road behaviour. These systems detect speeding, lane drifting, jaywalking, signal jumping, and sudden braking events in real-time. The gathered data is then used to identify accident-prone areas and recommend automated interventions such as dynamic signages or automated alerts to traffic control rooms. This initiative supports India’s broader Digital India and Safe India goals These tools not only track violations but also feed incident reports to traffic management centres (TMCs) for predictive traffic planning. Additionally, The plan also aligns with India’s Vision Zero campaign, which aims for zero road accident deaths through a combination of policy, enforcement, and innovation. (smart city).

Strategic Location: Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s most populous and logistically critical states, has seen a high number of road traffic accidents in recent years. According to NCRB data, the state recorded over 22,000 road accident fatalities in 2023 alone. The pilot project focuses on accident hotspots in Lucknow, Kanpur, and Ghaziabad, serving as a testbed before scaling to other regions. This local rollout reflects a broader National Road Safety Policy, which emphasizes smart technologies in enforcement. The pilot leverages melodica’s cloud-native AI architecture, designed to handle large volumes of real-time video and sensor data. It integrates with IoT-enabled traffic sensors, CCTV networks, and dashboard cameras.

Public-Private Partnership Model

This initiative is a hallmark of effective public-private partnership (PPP) in India’s infrastructure modernization journey. brings its legacy of telecom expertise and state reach, while logic contributes advanced data science and analytics capabilities. The collaboration exemplifies how tech-driven governance is evolving with private sector innovation, setting a model for future initiatives in urban mobility and digital safety infrastructure. the platform is capable of automated evidence generation, useful for law enforcement and insurance purposes If successful, the pilot could be expanded to national highways, border check posts, and other metro cities under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

In a landmark step toward reducing road accidents and enhancing traffic safety Limited, India’s premier telecom manufacturing PSU, has partnered with logic, a global data engineering and AI solutions provider, to launch a pilot AI-based road safety initiative in Uttar Pradesh. This collaboration aims to bring real-time decision-making capabilities and predictive analytics into the heart of India’s transport infrastructure, beginning with one of its most densely populated and high-risk regions.
